About Unicode and Preeti
Unicode is the modern standard for text encoding that supports all writing systems in the world, including Devanagari. Most modern applications, websites, and operating systems use Unicode for text handling.
Preeti is a legacy font encoding system widely used in Nepal for typing in Nepali. It was developed before Unicode became widespread and uses a different character mapping than standard Unicode. Many government offices, newspapers, and older systems in Nepal still use Preeti font.
This converter helps you work with both formats by easily converting text between Unicode and Preeti encodings. This is particularly useful when:
- Working with legacy documents that use Preeti font
- Converting content for older systems that only support Preeti
- Modernizing content by converting from Preeti to Unicode
- Sharing content between modern and legacy systems
Note that the conversion might not be perfect for all complex conjuncts and special characters, but it handles most common Nepali text correctly.
